Die Verschwendung von Lebensmitteln trägt in hohem Maße zum Klimawandel und zu vielen weiteren Umweltbelastungen bei. Darüber hinaus ist sie ein großes ethisches Problem. Lebensmittelverluste und -abfälle treten in der gesamten Herstellungskette auf, von der ursprünglichen Erzeugung bis hin zu den privaten Haushalten. Es wäre leicht, einen großen Teil davon zu vermeiden.
